Have a heart
If you’re anything like me and have left things to the last minute this valentine’s (and you can crochet of course), you’re going to love this next freebie!

This little cutie is worked in one piece and is a mere 142sts from start to finish. It’s also perfect for a beginner as it’s worked in one continuous piece, so no confusion when joining rounds (that one always got me when I was starting out. Actually it still does.)
ch = chain or stitch
sl st = single crochet or
slip stitch
dc = double crochet
inc2dc = work specified
number of stitches
in next ch
dc2tog = work specified
number of stitches
together
You will need:
* small quantity of yarn
* crochet hook (see size guide)
* Small quantity of wadding
Size Guide
Choose a hook 1-2 sizes smaller than recommended to create a dense finish, or use two strands of yarn.
Heart (from base):
Note: * indicates the start/end of each round. Do not join rounds but use this as a guide if you like to use stitch markers.
Make loop in yarn and work 6dc in loop, but do not join round. Pull loop tight to close and continue on these 6 stitches as follows:
1dc, inc3dc, 2dc, inc3dc, 1dc * 10dc * 2dc, inc3dc, 4dc, inc3dc, 2dc * 14dc * 3dc, inc3dc, 6dc, inc3dc, 3dc * 18dc
Heart (top):
Continue working in rounds without joining on first 9sts only, as follows:
9dc * 4dc, dc2tog, 3dc * 3dc, dc2tog, 3dc * 2dc, 1sl st
Fasten off, leaving loose end for closing once filled. Rejoin yarn and repeat with remaining 9 sts, making 2ch for the first 1dc.
Finishing
Fill Heart with wadding, then thread loose ends through remaining stitches at tops, and pull tight to close. Use remaining loose end to close gap between tops, if necessary.
